This is a hot topic in the salon daily. If you have grey hair or have considered growing your hair out to it's natural color you may enjoy this post.
Grey hair tends to get dull and brassy just like blond hair can.
Have you ever noticed the ends of your hair or maybe some one you know be like a blond or reddish color. This is super common and there are a few things that cause this to happen.
1. The sun. Incase you didn't know, the sun causes everything to fade, break down, and change colors. Including your hair!
2. The water. Yes our water is horrible because we are sea level basically. They use a ton of chlorine to treat the city water. If you are on well water then you will have this problem times 10 because of mineral deposits and sulfur.
3. The products you use. For example the suave you are using deposits wax and plastics on to the hair causing it to hold on to oils and grease.
4. Smoking. Smoking can cause the hair to turn yellowish on the ends.
So now the question is how do we fix that?
The answer is simple.
Products are the solution.
The first one I want to talk about should be the most commonly used. And that is Violet Shampoo and Conditioner. This works by depositing Violet pigment over the brassy/ yellow ends creating a canceling effect. Leaving the hair bright and silver again.
I recommend using LOMA brand only. Other brands have an alkaline base that causes the hair to become dry and brittle.
A little secret: We use this on all of our silver/ grey guests in the salon.
The second product is a clarifying product. This can be any clarifying shampoo. Do not use a clarifying shampoo on your hair daily. This should only be used once a week of less. This also goes for the violet shampoo and conditioner.
My last tip is to add a little baking soda to your regular shampoo and use that to remove mineral build up.
I hope you find this super helpful and be sure to tell me in the comments below if you have tried any of these suggestions.
